Gilded Skull Series continues

In anticipation for the RAW: Seattle show next month, I've decided to focus significantly more on larger skull renderings, specifically on wood/board.

Below is "Harbingers", a 12"x12" pen and ink with gold enamel on board. I'm planning on also working on a small series of gold beetles and smaller skulls on smaller pieces of maple, which I will be posting regular on my social media, so feel free to follow me on these platforms:

RAW Seattle

I'm excited to announce that I'm going to be participating in RAW: Seattle Presents Trend on Thursday, June 23rd. Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased here

A whole slew of new gilded skull series will be on display and for sale, including larger scale pieces on wooden board. Please come by!

Figure Fest is Live!

Riot Games is doing a special limited time promotion where all figures are super discounted AND the newest figures are also live. Check out Heimerdinger, Lulu, Braum, Tryndamere, Gnar, Draven, and Zed.

These were my last few figure packaging designs I made while still employed at Riot (with the exception of Gnar), so it's awesome to see them finally out in the wild, especially Heimer!

New Skulls Pattern

Includes a hawk, labrador, cat, boar, kiwi, bat, rabbit, gecko, squirrel, bear, and cayman.

I've decided to get back in the swing of designing patterns for fabric (or I dunno other stuff too), so I've started a series of mini single-line-weight illustrations of all kinds of skulls. These two pages are the start, each page is 6"x6" square.

My goal is to have 4+ pages of these to make into a simple black-on-white fabric design, probably jersey cotton, but maybe something as fancy as a linen. To be decided.

Includes an ell, tapir, giraffe, tiger, finch, moose, otter, duck, and turtle.

ArenaNet Pro League Announcement

I have been in a mini crunch for the past two weeks or so at ArenaNet, designing a new logo for the recently announced partnership of the ESL Guild Wars 2 Pro League.

The above graphic was created in Adobe Illustrator and then brought into Photoshop as a smart object. I overlayed an appropriate piece of concept art as a screen layer and had some fun breaking up the rigidity of the shape with some brush marks.

The official announcement is here:

Inktober Continued

Owl skull "nesting"

I've been peppering my social media with the better sketches-of-the-day, but here's a small dump of some of the inkings from the past week.

Marceline studies from life.

"Hide it in the Hornbill" Faber-Castell and Pentell pens plus watercolors and caesin (white).

"Horned Albatross" went into a bit more fantasy--Faber-Castell, Pentell, and that white Caesin.

Very tiny "Sharp Words" opossum skull--Faber-Castell, Pentell, Watercolors, and Caesin.

Also tiny "Current Mood" cat skull -- Faber-Castell, Watercolors

I've decided to try and challenge myself this year by participating in Inktober, a month-long inking-a-day activity and posting the resulting images here and on my social media.

Barred owl skull with thistle flowers. Faber-Castell PITT pens plus a gray tones brush pen I borrowed from my boyfriend's set.

ArenaNet Logo: Guild Chat

Made this logo on a relatively tight turnaround for ArenaNet's Guild Chat, which was animated externally. The goal was to have something that fit in with the already established "Point of Interest" brand, so single color with simple typography and a minimal but solid image reference.

You can see the first episode of Guild Chat on the official Guild Wars 2 YouTube page.

Full Skull Series to Date

Left: Cardinal, Right: Sparrow

I'm planning on updating my Behance page soon, as well as possibly list these originals on Etsy, but here's a sneak peek at all of the skull pen and ink illustrations I've been working on in my personal time.

Left: Beaver, Right: Tusked Mouse

Dik Dik Skull

Top Left: Pheasant, Top Right: Finch, Middle Left: Hawk, Middle Right: Duck, Stacked Top: Ibis, Bottom: Heron

Crow with watercolors

Some sort of heron skeleton with hypericum berries, evergreen branch, and greens

I'm planning on playing around a lot with potential watercolor and composition. The golds are super fun to do but do not scan or reproduce well, so those will have to remain originals unless I can get my hands on some sort of press or screenprinting gear.

Chad Gowey Spotlight: Currents

Very pleased to cross-promote the incredibly talented Chad Gowey because his new young adult book is out: Currents. Writted by Jane Smolik and published by Charlesbridge in MA, Chad illustrated the full jacket, end pages, three black and white full pages, plus a vignette message in a bottle, which was also used for a gold emboss on the hardcover.

Chad's website is here and you can check it out for the full breakdown of watercolors, sketches, and thumbnails.

Gilded Skulls: The Beginning

I've been really stoked to break in my new Faber-Castell PITT artist pens and decided to try making a sheet of bird skulls, one of my favorite things to draw. Started with the pheasant in the top left, then moved to the finch (top right), the hawk, the duck, an ibis, and the bottom is a heron.Gold enamel paint for the beak detailing, the soft brush and standard brush for the major shapes, XS tip for the shading/interiors.
